Find the Devils
90 Miles of Texas' History
The Devils River begins in Sutton County and runs more than 90 miles, mostly through Val Verde County. It flows into Amistad Reservoir, ultimately providing water to the lower Rio Grande. In the upper stretches, it flows only intermittently, but grows stronger as creeks and springs contribute to the river's flow along the way.
The incredible diversity of wildlife found along the Devils is partly due to the fact that it flows through an area where three biological regions converge – the Chihuahuan Desert, Edwards Plateau, and Rio Grande Plain brushland.
